Gilf Promenade

Short run by the water

The Gilfround is the perfect blend of city and nature: compact, refreshing, and full of impressions. Run between Art Nouveau architecture and natural scenery right in the heart of Merano.

The route follows the Passer River and is enjoyable all year round. In summer, mature trees provide welcome shade, while mornings and evenings are perfect for running.

Start at the Theater Bridge, past the Kurhaus, along the Winterpromenade to the Gilfpromenade and Gilf Gorge. Cross the Gilf Bridge to return along the Summerpromenade toward the old town, past Sissipark and over the Postal Bridge back to the Promenade. For variation or an extended run, take the switchback path up to the Tappeiner Promenade.

The Gilf itself is a small urban paradise: subtropical plants, palms, citrus trees, and flowering shrubs line the way. The Lyrikpfad adds a cultural touch – contemporary poems engraved on park benches invite brief stops. Running here means enjoying nature, marveling at the surroundings, and staying in the flow.

Mostly shaded and easy to navigate, the path is perfect for jogging, walking, Nordic walking, or simply enjoying nature. The combination of river, bridges, promenades, and city views makes this loop varied, short, and romantic.

Start and finish at your hotel, the perfect place to wrap up with a refreshing drink or snack before continuing your day.
