From Merano to Tirolo

Panoramic jogging for advanced runners

The mountain is calling. And this route answers.

A challenging but incredibly rewarding run, with two steep climbs, constantly changing views, and a detour into the charming village of Tirolo. Perfect for those who love variety, elevation gain, and seeing Meran from new perspectives.

Start relaxed on the Kurpromenade. Past palm trees and historic façades, you jog easily to the Kurhaus, then into Sparkassenstraße and straight to Restaurant Sissi. Ideal for warming up.

From here, it gets serious. The route climbs steeply in serpentine turns toward the Tappeiner Promenade. Your pulse rises, the view opens. At the top, the rhythm stabilizes: turn left and follow Tappeinerweg at an even pace. Mediterranean plants, orchards, and panoramic views over Meran and the valley make this section pure enjoyment.

At the end of Tappeinerweg, the second climb awaits. Turn right up the Gnaidweg, then right again, relaxing into a more moderate pace until reaching the main street. Turn right into Segenbühelstraße, passing villas and gardens with a southern flair.

After the Hotel Traubenheim, the path enters the Panoramaweg (Tirolersteig). Focus is required: steep serpentine descent back to Tappeinerweg. Legs work, mind enjoys the view.

At the bottom, turn left onto Tappeinerweg again, jogging comfortably to the St. Nicholas parish church, descend the steps to Pfarrplatz, and return relaxed to the Kurpromenade.

Urban, alpine, panoramic. A route for anyone who wants to experience Merano on foot.

Variations:

Extend to Castle Tirol:
At the end of Tappeinerweg, turn left onto Brunnenburgweg, return via St. Peter and Thurnstein Castle. More elevation, more panorama, more wow.

Short scenic return:
Instead of taking the Tirolersteig, vote for the elegant way down; at the end of Segenbühelstraße, glide back into the city on the Tirolo-Merano single chairlift, above rooftops, gardens, and vineyards. A gentle finish for an intense run.
